Human risk assessment of contaminated sites may form a part of large projects where soil quality as well as economical and social interests are of importance. For instance by regenerating, in a cost-effective way, degraded and damaged land to a site with no actual human risks due to soil contamination. Risk assessment can also be used in smaller projects as determining the effectiveness of a soil remediation. These kind of risk assessment projects need various data ranging from concentrations of contaminants to site specific data.

Van Hall Larenstein developed the model RISC-HUMAN to calculate human exposure and to support site specific human risk assessment. To improve the application of RISC-HUMAN in the field of activity of risk based soil remediation, Van Hall Larenstein offers the (potential) RISC-HUMAN users in the United Kingdom, an introduction course as well as a workshop.

Course
The course is intended to introduce RISC-HUMAN to those people with no or minor experience in applying RISC-HUMAN. The main goal of the course is to learn the participants to use RISC-HUMAN and to demonstrate the possible applications of the model in the field of activity. After the course, users should be able to apply RISC-HUMAN in daily practice. The course contains an introduction and a demonstration of the model RISC-HUMAN, exercises and application of the model in a case-study.

Workshop
More experienced users of RISC-HUMAN is offered a workshop. The aim of the workshop is to improve the skills in applying RISC-HUMAN in more complex human risk assessment cases.

Parts of the workshop are discussions between users about problems and questions encountered while using RISC-HUMAN in daily practice. These discussions are supported by the trainers. Also a practical case-study will be presented. Personal contribution to the workshop is needed in the form of exchange of personal experience in applying the model and providing own case-studies.
