Training RISC-HUMAN in Belgium
   
Introduction

Human risk assessment is used more and more in soil contamination problems. It can be part of large projects where soil quality as well as economical and social interests are of importance, but it can be applied in smaller projects as well. An example is regenerating degraded land towards a site with no actual human risks. The human exposure model RISC-HUMAN is suitable to assess the site specific human risks and to derive site specific soil use values. RISC-HUMAN is used in numerous countries around the world including Belgium .

Many RISC-HUMAN users would like to have reflection on their experience with the model and discuss their bottlenecks with other users of the program. Also insight in the underlying principles of the program as well as differences with the Flemish exposure model Vlier-Humaan is often desired. For these users, we offer the workshop RISC-HUMAN. The workshop will be held in Brussels .

 
Workshop

The workshop is intended for people who already have some experience in using RISC-HUMAN. Furthermore, knowledge about soil contamination issues is required.

Contents

•  Introduction workshop

•  Lecture on underlying principles of RISC-HUMAN: participants will learn possibilities and restrictions of modelling a site with RISC-HUMAN. Differences between RISC-HUMAN and Vlier-Humaan will be discussed as well.

•  Practical case study in which several difficulties should be solved: assessing available information from soil investigations, selecting input for RISC-HUMAN and interpretation of model output.

•  Discussion between users about bottlenecks and questions encountered in the application of RISC-HUMAN in daily practice. The trainers support these discussions.

 
Practical information

The course is developed and presented by trainers of Van Hall Larenstein who are also involved by the development of RISC-HUMAN and training on risk assessment and soil contamination. The language of instruction during the training is English. Lunches are included.
